Geovanni Alexander Garcia Orellana admitted to consuming several tequila drinks on Thursday night before getting behind the wheel of his pick-up truck, striking another vehicle, and attempting to flee the area before being arrested, officials say.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Feb. 29, a sergeant from the sheriff's office was at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Richmond Highway when he saw Garcia Orellana strike the vehicle and continuing on down the road.

The 47-year-old Portsmouth resident caused an estimated $6,000 worth of damage.

The sergeant was able to stop Garcia Orellana further down Richmond Highway near Austin Park Drive, and while speaking with him, they said the driver "had clear signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath," according to a sheriff's office spokesperson.

He would also admit to consuming several tequila drinks prior to driving, and a subsequent search of his vehicles, deputies found an open bottle of liquor, as well as a machete that was stashed under the driver's seat.

Garcia Orellana was arrested and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .20 percent, carrying a concealed weapon, drinking while driving, felony hit and run, as well as, driving without insurance.

He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
